Happy Birthday My Special Little Four Year Old Boy

It's Saturday the day before your Fourth Birthday and I'm sitting here while you and Daddy have gone out shopping for your birthday cake and I'm thinking back to four years ago when a very special thing happened in Daddy and mines life. I just wanted to let you know my darling how special and important to Mummy and Daddy you are. Sure you've bought us a lot of heartache and tears and annoyance but more importantly you have bought us the biggest joy in the whole wide world and we love you so very much. I don't think any other little boy could give the bestest of cuddles to match yours or the cheekiest of smiles to beat yours. You have this beautiful passion for life and fun which I hope you keep all your life and everyone you meet is drawn into your love for life and falls in love with you. It's been wonderful to see you grow up over these four years and see you go from this tiny little baby to this fun, loving, clever imaginative boy who has such a huge passion for cars and wants to be either a mechanic or policeman when he grows up, although you've told us you won't be a policeman that wears a hat as you don't like wearing hats all the time. This next year is going to have so much happening in it with you going to Big Boys School and us maybe moving home and I'm looking forward to taking this next step in life with you.

I wonder what cake you're trying to persuade Daddy to buy you. *laugh* You've been telling us all week that you would like a Dr Who one but I wonder if you see the Lightning McQueen one or if they have a Transformers one if you'll change your mind.

So will you remember this day when you're older I wonder. I suppose in case you don't I should comment on the big day. Last night Nanny Mary, Grandad Steve, Aunties Katie, Els and Frankie came round to give you your presents which once you got over your shyness (which I never understand!) you delved into with your typical lust for things. You had a good time and wanted to play with everything all at once. Then after they all went Daddy bathed you and I read you two stories (Dig Dig Digging and Choo-Choo Clickety Clack) and then you went off to sleep cuddling the Optimus Prime that Nanny Mary and Grandad Steve had got you. It was so adorable to see you asleep all cuddled up with it and I couldn't resist taking a photo of that precious moment.

This morning Daddy and I allowed you, in our family tradition of birthdays, to have a present early. It was a double Transformers set of (hang on I have to go and double check the names) Ultra Magnus and Skywarp. Transformers are you current thing at the moment, you've been watching the cartoons and playing with the Transformers you already have and any you didn't you named your normal cars after them. It's been fascinating to watch you do this and funny to hear your little stories. You have such a brilliant imagination. Daddy showed you how they both transformed (they aren't meant for a five year old child but we know you'll be clever enough to work out how they transform properly) and you both had fun flying and driving them around the flat and making "doooo" noises, I assume that is how the word is spelt. Tonight Daddy is going to show me how to transform them so that I can help you during the week when you have trouble. Should be fun and I promise to not break them.

This afternoon we have arranged if it doesn't rain to meet up over Hylands Park (you call it the park near playschool) with some of your friends to have fun and eat fairy cakes, hopefully also to sing Happy Birthday to you and maybe play some football. I'm really hoping the weather stays nice as we don't want you to be disappointed in not being able to go. The last few years when we've tried to do something on your birthday something has happened to allow it not to happen. Fingers crossed this year is different.

Well I've just spoken to Daddy who tells me you've picked out a Darlek Dr Who cake and he is just about to buy fairy cakes and be on his way home so I should go and iron your t-shirt you've picked out to where today.

The Terrible Twos

Terrible Twos

Well I've finally reached the grand old age of two! Apparently it's referred to as the terrible twos but Mummy and Daddy keep saying that that's a myth and doesn't exist. Hmmm me thinks they might be fibbing on this. I've heard all the rumours about it at Mother and Toddlers and from those cousins of mine. The story goes that once you reach the age of two years you are given free reign to terrorise your parents, family and friends. This is done by throwing what is called temper tantrums, but in truth is just a fun way to see how far you can push Mummy and Daddy into giving you whatever you heart desires. Also you get to refuse your food and milk and demand you have a diet of just chocolate, crisps, lilt and those ever so nice little dinky things called sausages. Run amok in the middle of the night... Mummy looks so funny with her hair all sticking up. There's lots of mischief you can cause. I think this next year is going to be lots of fun, much better than all the trouble and torment I've caused this past year. Wow I wonder what it must be like to be 18 and the myths about the mayhem you can cause at that age.

Well I suppose I better say a little bit about my birthday. The day itself was fabulous. I woke up and went in to see Mummy and Daddy and saw this big huge mountain of Postman Pats and Winnie the Pooh stuck on paper of odd shapes and sizes. I didn't know what to do, it was huge and so intriguing looking. I got told that they were all for me and that I could open them. The first few were some groovy clothes but then after that it was a magical toy shop! There was a hoover which actually makes noises and picks things up, I can soon put Mummy in a retirement home as she'll no longer be needed around the house. Then there was a Tractor Tom Farm set which is really cool, it's got animals and haystacks and a barn and Cars!! Yipppeeeee my favourite toys to play with. What else was there? Ermmm... oh yes a Fire-Engine that flashs and makes noises and moves along, my very own c.d. player and c.d.'s which is good, I can now listen to some decent music Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is a great favourite of mine. There were some jigsaw puzzles and some building blocks. Lots and lots of fun things to play with. After we'd spent the morning playing with everything Mummy and Daddy got me dressed in one of the groovy t-shirts and we went out for lunch. We were going to go to Harry Ramsdens they do scrummy fish and chips but is was too busy in there so they had to give in to my pleas of wanting to go to McDonalds. Mmm I like McDonalds. After that I was meant to go to Play Town but for some reason we didn't go, something about it being closed down, pah didn't they know it was my birthday and I wanted to go there. So instead we went to the big toy shop and I got to pick out three toys for myself, I chose a Tinkie Winkie, a train called Percy and this cool looking car that you can take apart and build again! I'm so lucky to have such a great Mummy and Daddy.

Anyway this birthday thing is tiring. Not only did I get to have a whole day with just Mummy and Daddy and have lots of fun playing with new toys I also got to have home made birthday cake. It was yummy and had a chocolate middle... mmmm chocolate my favourite. The next day we were up early and Mummy spent many hours in the kitchen while Daddy and I played in the front room. I wish that Mummy could have joined us but she kept muttering things about people coming round and having food ready for them and making another cake and why was the silly thing sticking to the bottom of the tin... she would have been better off playing with Daddy and I. Sometime later Auntie Emma, Uncle Martyn and those cousins of mine turned up and we had great fun playing with the new toys and making a mess. Cousins Eloise and Alex though kept trying to take all the toys I wanted to play with off of me. Ha I'll show them the error of their ways when I'm older and Ruler of the Universe! After hours of playing, both Nannies and Grandad's turned up with all my other aunts, and uncles and Mummy's friend and her family turned up and I had more of that opening presents stuff. Boy is that hard work, all this paper to rip off then waiting for it to be taken out the box and then all the playing with it. Very hard work.

All in all though it was a great two days, I'm hoping that it happens more than once a year this birthday thing, presents are cool!

Father's Day

Well yesterday was Fathers Day. I think Daddy liked the presents I got him, which were a Dad Poem mug, Incredible Hulk sticker pads and colouring book and a placque thingy which Mummy and me have still to paint.

We went out to get him the food for Mummy to cook him a roast dinner... his favourite meal, well the roast potatoes part! We were going to go to the pub again but the silly pub we went to this time didn't allow children... grumpy old man!! So instead we went home.

Hehe I managed to sneak in another day nap so that I could stay up late again with Mummy and Daddy. It was way to sticky and hot to sleep so Daddy suggested that we watch the LiveAid dvd that was a christmas present. Lots of cool music for me to run around and dance to! Dancing is so much fun, especially the headbanging part. Eventually though I had to go to sleep but I made sure Mummy read me some more of The Jungle Book. Sometimes I wonder who enjoys the story more?!
